The layering guide: necklaces that work beautifully together

Good layering looks effortless and is anything but. The combinations that work follow three simple principles: staggered lengths, a single focal point, and a connecting thread.

Lengths: leave at least 5 cm between each necklace. A choker at 38 cm, a chain at 45 cm, and a pendant at 55 cm create three distinct planes that never tangle.

Focal point: only one piece should carry visual weight — a medallion, a larger pendant. The rest are texture. Two focal points at the neck compete; neither wins.

Connecting thread: repeat one element — the metal tone, chain thickness, a detail of shine. That repetition is what makes the set look considered, even when assembled in thirty seconds.
